Lily Collier of Barry recently celebrated her 104th birthday with close friends and family at her home on Cardiff Road. Mrs Collier has lived in Barry since the 1940s where her and her late husband raised their two children. Attending the birthday celebrations were numerous friends and family, including local MP Alun Cairns. Mr Cairns said, “It was truly fascinating to hear of the changes Lily had seen in Barry over the 70 years that she has lived here. It was clear from the warmth with which she speaks of Barry that this is a town that she holds very dear in her heart. It was a privilege to share her company as part of her birthday celebrations.”
Despite her 104 years, Mrs Collier is very independent with a booming social life, which includes a trip to the bingo three or four times per week. When she is not socialising, Mrs Collier mostly enjoys spending time with her close-knit family, including her three great-grandchildren.
