Barclays branch on Holton Road Barry is set to close on the 2nd November 2022. This is the second Barclays branch to close in the Vale since the Cowbridge branch closed 18 months ago.
Alun Cairns commented, ‘I am disappointed by this news because I know just how important banks are to residents and especially local businesses. In person banking services, in my view are still important.
I shall be asking to meet with Barclays to challenge them on the closure and discuss the impact it will have on Holton Road and Barry’s wider banking availability.”
The closest Barclays branches to Barry resident are now both in Cardiff on 28 Working Street and 42 Wellfield Road in Roath.
In a statement Barclays stated, ‘The decision to close a branch is never an easy one, however, the way people bank today is unrecognisable from 50 years ago when almost every banking transaction took place in a branch. Now, that number is less than 10%, and we need to make sure that we are providing our services in ways that best reflect customers’ needs, including outside of traditional branch formats.’
‘Despite the branch closure, we are confident that access to banking remains sufficient in the local community; everyday transactions can be completed at any Post Office, with the closest located at 160 Holton Road, Barry a short distance away. There are 18 free-to-use ATMs within one kilometre of Barry branch, the nearest at Tesco, 57 Holton Road, Barry.
