Vale of Glamorgan MP, Alun Cairns has met with management at Barry Power Station as well as senior personnel from Centrica to discuss the future of the maligned Barry Power Station. With the changing nature of the energy market and a drive towards renewables, the age of the Barry Power Station means its long-term viability remains uncertain.
There are many options currently being considered at the site and Alun Cairns and Centrica are to be working to find the best solution over the short, medium and long term.
Mr Cairns said of the current situation
“I am concerned about the twenty staff who work there. During the meeting, I was reassured that steps are being taken to do the best for Barry on this site. If the site does have to close I am pleased to have heard that a number of other options are already being looked at to redevelop it, and to help to not just secure, but increase the number of job opportunities on the site.
I will stay in close contact with the changes and any proposals on the site and am optimistic that there will be a positive outcome for the Barry site in the future.”
