The public toilets at the Kings Square library in Barry have won two prestigious national prizes as part of the Loo of the Year Awards. The local loo won in the category of ‘library toilets’ and the highly competitive ‘full time attended’ toilets section.
The awards were bestowed on the toilet following a visit from inspectors at the end of last year, who judged the facilities on their cleanliness, appearance and good working order.
Vale MP Alun Cairns visited Steven Davis, the toilet attendant at the impeccably clean Kings Square loos, to congratulate him last week.
Mr Davis has been cleaning the toilets for three years, following a life changing ladder accident that left one of his legs so severely damaged that it may still need to be amputated. Despite his disability, Mr Davis goes the extra mile in the often physically demanding role, believing that people should take pride in what they do.
The Vale MP was deeply impressed by Mr Davis attitude to life and work and praised him as an example to wider society.
Mr Cairns said, “Steven Davis deserves hearty congratulations for his hard work, week in week out, ensuring that the toilets at Kings Square library are the best in the country. I am delighted that his work has been recognised with a national award.
“Steven could have stopped working following his accident but has chosen instead to put his efforts into doing his new job with energy and pride. He works incredibly hard, despite physical difficulty, to be the best at what he does. His positive attitude serves as an example to us all.”
