Thank You Message Boards have been launched at Barry Library, Kings Square, by Alun Cairns MP and the Royal British Legion. The boards will be in place for the month ahead as we approach the Centenary of the end of the First World War.
Mr Cairns has worked with the Barry branch of the Royal British Legion to set up the boards and has written to local schools encouraging children to share their messages of thanks to those who sacrificed so much during the Great War. Already, some of the children who attend classes at the Library have contributed messages.
The Vale MP said, “I’m really pleased that the Thank You boards have been put up as we approach the 100th year since the end of the First World War. I’d like to pay tribute to the excellent local volunteers at the Royal British Legion, who I have worked with on this project. I think it’s so important that the children of today understand the great sacrifices that so many people, both civilians and military personnel, made during this incredibly difficult period. I’m really pleased to see that some children have already written some very touching messages and I look forward to seeing the board fill up over the next month.”
