MP Describes Arrival of Aston Martin to St Athan as Game Changer for Area
Vale MP Alun Cairns has welcomed the announcement of a new state of the art manufacturing facility producing Aston Martin vehicles at St Athan and described the major scheme as a ‘game changer’ for future employment prospects in the Vale.
Mr Cairns has hailed the work and commitment shown by the Prime Minister in working closely with Aston Martin and Ministry of Defence to identify the ‘Super-hangar’ on the north side of St Athan airfield. The local MP said the knock on benefits will be significant as recognition widens of the opportunities that exist for major companies to relocate to the Vale of Glamorgan.
In praising the efforts of the Ministry of Defence and David Cameron in ensuring availability and suitability of the site, Mr Cairns said the announcement will result in up to 750 skilled jobs employed directly by Aston Martin with many more jobs being created nearby as a result of the investment.
Mr Cairns said: “Seeing a company of the highest calibre like Aston Martin create up to 750 skilled jobs at St Athan is fantastic statement of confidence for major businesses investing and choosing sites in the Vale of the Glamorgan. The Prime Minister David Cameron made a commitment at the Royal Welsh Show in 2015 to pull out all the stops to deliver Aston Martin. The Vale of Glamorgan is well and truly open for business, and I will keep banging the drum for local investment large or small that creates highly skilled jobs and continued economic development. This investment by Aston Martin can benefit the Vale of Glamorgan for decades to come.”
