Barred from Beach Huts - Now Council Ban MP from Football Stadium
Just a week after the Vale Council blocked a bid from Vale MP Alun Cairns to hold a surgery in a beach hut for “commercial” reasons, Mr Cairns has now been banned from advertising surgeries at Jenner Park stadium in Barry. The Vale MP wanted to place an advertising board at the stadium to promote his Parliamentary surgeries at Jenner Park in Barry.
The Vale Council has arbitrarily blocked the bid by the MP, and Mr Cairns is calling on the Vale Council to “play it straight” when it comes to elected representatives attempting to engage with constituents.
In other areas of Wales, for example – Chris Bryant MP, Glyn Davies MP, James Davies MP and Leighton Andrews AM all place boards at the local football stadium and Mr Cairns has labelled the decision by the local authority as “bizarre and petty - but sadly unsurprising”.
Mr Cairns has written to leader of the local authority Cllr Neil Moore for an explanation of the decision.
Mr Cairns said: “In light of the bizarre decision making by the Vale Council on my beach hut surgery plan, I am deeply disappointed to see my bid to advertise my surgeries in a non political way at the local football stadium has also been blocked. I have been stopped in the street by local residents praising my aim of reaching constituents in different ways, but it seems the local authority leadership are intent on taking such odd decisions.
“My simple aim is to reach all communities, and all age groups in Barry – I want my surgeries to be well attended so that I can help local constituents. A surgery is not political, the Vale Council should stop being so petty and let constituents have the opportunity to meet their local MP.”
