Barry Beavers Disabled Swimming Club have unveiled a commemorative book to celebrate the club’s history.
The club, which trains in Barry Leisure Centre, has been active for over three decades, with hundreds of members past and present. The current membership of 80, gathered in the dance hall in the leisure centre this Saturday for speeches from the Chair of the club Christopher Economides the Secretary Pat Finch, book coordinator Angela Price and a few of the founding members. Each member received a copy of the book, with handovers to special friends and supporters of the club, also.
Also attending the ceremony was longstanding friend of the club, Alun Cairns MP. He said, “It was an honour to speak at this wonderfully heart-warming event, because it is clear to see the positive impact which the club has had on its members over the decades which it has been running. I have seen this club battle through the most difficult of times, yet their perseverance has always helped them to overcome the difficulties facing them. I had a lump in my throat listening to the members speak of how grateful they are for all that Barry Beavers has helped them to achieve. This club is truly special!”
The Barry Beavers are looking forward to their annual Party In the Park which will take place on Sunday 6th August at Porthkerry Park.
