Romilly, Porthkerry and Victoria parks have been recognised for their beauty, by residents and visitors in a UK-wide competition.
All three Barry parks were nominated for the Fields In Trust ‘UK’s Best Park 2017’ award as a result of their exceptional maintenance and aesthetic qualities.
Fields In Trust Wales Manager, Rhodri Edwards, met with Vale MP Alun Cairns to break the good news of the parks’ nominations and to inform him of the work carried out by Fields In Trust to protect the town’s green spaces. In addition they discussed the newly protected sites in Peterston-Sper-Ely and Llanmaes.
Mr Cairns said, “I am delighted that these wonderful parks have been recognised. In such a large town, our green spaces are highly appreciated and I congratulate the Council for maintaining them so well.”
The Vale of Glamorgan has been shortlisted for the Local Authority Partner of the Year Award, in an additional recognition of their dedication to promoting and safeguarding the area’s parks. Dave Knevett, Operational Manager of Leisure, Visible Services and Transport will be attending the UK’s Best Park awards evening at Lord’s Cricket Ground later in the month to find out whether either the parks’ or the Council’s nominations are successful.
