Alun Cairn MP for the Vale has hit back at the Labour and Independent led Council over car-parking charges as they start the process of introducing charges at the Holton Road and Cowbridge High Street car parks. The Labour Council has published a Traffic Regulation Order notice of intent a legal document enabling the Council to regulate and restrict the use of public roads and carparks.
Alun Cairns MP said
“At a time when the High St is in serious danger of not surviving, parking charges would be the final nail and I am worried about the impact these proposals will have in all our shopping and coastal areas. They will destroy local businesses. These proposals show how out of touch the Council Cabinet are. I also worry about the impact the charges will have on community initiatives like Barry Island Park Run, which will only suffer as a result.
Coronavirus has created significant challenges for businesses and parking charges will add further difficulties. The Council was wrong to think that any introduction was reasonable but in the current context they must now completely scrap their plans.”
