Pupils from Colcot Primary School visited Parliament last week as part of a trip organised by local MP Alun Cairns.
The pupils, led by their Head Teacher Nia Cule, set out from the Vale early in the morning so that they could have a tour of the Palace of Westminster and test the Vale MP in a question time session.
They also had a chance to explore Parliament’s work in-depth, giving many a greater knowledge of the processes behind British democracy.
Alun Cairns said, “I love showing people around Parliament but take particular pleasure in welcoming school trips. I was delighted to show Colcot pupils around.
“All of the children were well behaved, and they certainly put me through my paces at the Question Time event. There are certainly some political journalists of the future amongst the Colcot pupils!
“It was a privilege to welcome them and the pupils were all a credit to Colcot Primary School. If any other local school would like to come I am happy to arrange it.”
Mrs Cule, the pupils’ teacher, added, “This has been a fabulous opportunity and experience for all of the children, a valuable learning experience that will be remembered always. This is a great way for children to develop awareness of the importance of the vote.
“Alun Cairns made us feel most welcome, giving up his time, answering some rather challenging questions.”
