Residents of Somerset View, Ogmore-By-Sea have filed complaints with the Local Authority and the housing developer David Wilson Homes regarding a brand new play park installed behind their properties. The complaints focus on the line of sight from the benches in the park, which directly face the bedroom windows of those living on the abutting properties on Somerset View.
Alun Cairns MP hosted a meeting between the residents and the housing developer responsible for the park in order that those affected could directly explain their concerns. Rhodri Williams of David Wilson Homes agreed that the benches could be moved so that they do not face the windows. In addition extra measures will be taken to protect the privacy of the residents living in the houses behind the park, such as the installation of bushes and frosted glass screens.
Following the meeting, Mr Cairns said “I am pleased that Mr Williams has agreed to install the bushes and screens to protect the privacy of the residents of Somerset View. Having a play park is of course a wonderful addition to the village for Ogmore – By – Sea youngsters, however the right of residents to a private life must also be protected.”
During the meeting, the residents expressed concerns that this park would play host to antisocial behaviour at unsociable hours, especially following the installation of skateboarding facilities. Mr Cairns encouraged residents to report any incidents of antisocial behaviour to South Wales Police via 101. The Vale MP will also highlight this concern with the local Chief Inspector.
