Dyffryn Gardens has unveiled its brand new facilities in time for the summer holidays.
The gardens boast a vast selection of plants and trees, with adventure themed activities for children to enjoy such as assault courses and den building. New elements have also been installed in the visitors’ section of the house, including a second tea room where visitors can enjoy a cream tea or snack, as well as a cafe and shop.
While the Victorian house and Edwardian gardens remain under the ownership of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, the National Trust took over their maintenance and running in January 2013, with the house reopening to visitors in March of the same year.
Vale MP and Secretary of State for Wales, Alun Cairns visited Dyffryn Gardens ahead of the opening of the new facilities. During the visit, National Trust site manager Geraldine Donovan explained, “It is key that the house and the gardens retain their enchanting authenticity and rich history, whilst also encouraging interactivity from visitors of all generations. There really is something here for everyone, from budding botanists to families simply wishing to relax in the grounds.”
Mr Cairns said, “I had not visited Dyffryn Gardens since the National Trust had taken over the maintenance, and I was astounded by the rejuvenation work that has taken place. The house has returned from its once dilapidated condition, and is now bright with exquisite décor.
“Dyffryn Gardens is a hidden treasure in the Vale of Glamorgan, which very few residents realise is on their doorstep. With acres of rolling lawns, there are hours of fun to be had there for children during the summer holidays. Often we overlook the spots of beauty that lie right on our doorstep - this summer do not miss out on the opportunity to visit Dyffryn Gardens!”
