Network Rail will this summer be delivering a package of work to upgrade Barry Island viaduct. The work involved will include cleaning the structure, steel work repairs, grit-blast and painting.
Network Rail have, in an announcement made this week, guaranteed that most of the work will take place during the day time and early evening, with the exception of minimal activities which need completing when the trains are not running.
Local MP Alun Cairns said, “Network Rail first made me aware of the planned upgrade to the viaduct last year, and I was inevitably concerned for the residents and business owners who may be affected, especially with a significant part of the work being carried out in the summer months.
“However, I am assured by Network Rail that a scaffold will be erected around the viaduct which will be fully covered during the work to reduce dust. I am also informed that those carrying out the upgrade will also be using a system of acoustic barriers to reduce noise generated by the work.
“I will of course be monitoring the impact of the work, and welcome all residents, business owners and visitors to contact me should they feel these assurances are not being respected.”
The site compound will be set up from the 10th of July. This will be located on the overflow car-park adjacent to the viaduct.
