Pupils from Llangan Primary School visited Parliament last week as part of a trip organised by local MP Alun Cairns.
The pupils, led by teacher Mr Chaeter, set out from the Vale at the crack of dawn so that they could have a tour of the Palace of Westminster and test the Vale MP in a question time session.
As part of the programme, they also created their own manifestos and talked about a range of policy areas.
Alun Cairns said, “I love showing people around Parliament but take particular pleasure in welcoming school trips. I was delighted to show Llangan pupils around. This is the third visit by Llangan Primary since my time in parliament.
“All of the children were well behaved, and they certainly put me through my paces at the Question Time event. Jeremy Paxman would be a doddle in comparison! Better Broadband was top of their agenda.
“It was a privilege to welcome them and the pupils were all a credit to Llangan Primary School. If any other local school would like to come I am happy to arrange it.”
Mr Chaeter, the pupils’ teacher, added, “This has been a fabulous opportunity and experience for all of the children, a valuable learning experience that will be remembered always. This is a great way for children to develop awareness of the importance of the vote.
“Alun Cairns made us feel most welcome, giving up his precious time, answering some rather challenging questions.”
The school’s Head Boy and Head Girl were also impressed with the visit.
Head Boy Cai said, “It was an excellent day as we had an opportunity to learn about the Houses of Parliament.”
Head Girl Megan added, “It was a great experience as we got to see the amazing sight of Parliament.”
