Openreach ’Full Fibre’ broadband plans set to upgrade 10,000 rural homes in the Vale
Alun Cairns MP is delighted that residents in Llantwit Major are set to benefit from better and more reliable broadband under the latest ‘full fibre’ rollout.
Openreach have announced plans to build ultrafast, ultra-reliable full fibre broadband for 10,757 premises in the Vale of Glamorgan. Plans to introduce full fibre broadband capacity in Llantwit Major are at the heart of the rollout programme.
Alun Cairns stated that, “I am really pleased that Llantwit Major is receiving full fibre broadband early in the rollout. I have always worked hard to ensure that the Western Vale is not left behind. We have all come to understand in recent months the need for reliable and fast broadband as many of us have been forced to work from home.”
The Vale MP added, “I have been working with Openreach on an ongoing basis to ensure that everyone gets the best possible broadband. This was also a central pledge at the last election and shows our commitment to the levelling up agenda. Clearly there are still some pockets of the Vale where speeds need to improve but this is a major uplift.”
Openreach’s updated build plan will be fundamental to the UK Government achieving its target of delivering ‘gigabit capable broadband’ to 85 per cent of UK by 2025.
Connie Dixon, Openreach’s Regional Director for Wales, said “this huge project will help level-up the UK because the impact of Full Fibre broadband stretches from increased economic prosperity and international competitiveness, to higher employment and environmental benefits.”
Connie added, “We’re also delighted to continue bucking the national trend by creating more Welsh jobs, with apprentices joining in their droves to start their careers as engineers.”
