Vale of Glamorgan MP Alun Cairns has united with local politicians to intensify pressure on the Welsh Government to provide Vale pupils with a fairer education funding settlement.
Under the current scheme, the Vale of Glamorgan receives the least amount of funding per pupil across the whole of Wales.
Alun Cairns MP, along with AMs Andrew RT Davies and David Melding recently attended a meeting at the Civic Offices in Barry with Vale Council Leader John Thomas and Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning Bob Penrose- as well as the Chair of Schools Budget Forum Dr Vince Browne.
Alun Cairns MP started a petition recently, calling on the Welsh Government to change the education funding methodology- which now has just over 4,000 signatures.
After the meeting, Mr Cairns has called on the Welsh Government to solve this "awful" funding methodology.
Mr Cairns has said "it is wholly unacceptable that pupils throughout the Vale are at such a disadvantage because of the where they live
"It is vital that pupils are treated equally and have access to a good education, yet the Vale receives the least funding throughout the whole of Wales.
"This is despite the Vale Council allocating more money than the Welsh Government provides, by relocating money from other budgets.
"Over 4,000 people have signed the petition calling on the Government to improve the funding within the Vale, making it clear that people share our opinion and have worrying concerns about the situation.
"We are working together to lobby the Welsh Government and change the funding methodology- this would make it fairer to pupils throughout the Vale and give them the education they are entitled to."
