Ewenny Community Council have installed a plaque to commemorate the lighting of celebration beacons at the Tair Croes hill for both the 90th Birthday of Her Majesty this year and the jubilees of 2002 and 2012.
Vale MP Alun Cairns unveiled the plaque affixed to the trig point marking the top of Tair Croes on December 22nd amidst heavy rain and wind. Community Councillors and local residents braved the elements, enjoying the jolly but wet unveiling ceremony with champagne in plastic flutes.
Mr Cairns paid tribute to the Ewenny Community Council for enthusiastically marking the royal occasions, making reference to the hundreds of beacons lit by villagers on hills throughout the island of Great Britain connecting the country in celebration.
The MP told the Gem, “It was a great honour to unveil the plaque and to thank Ewenny Community Council for their role in celebrating the life and reign of Her Majesty. Their act of celebration and commemoration help to bind us together as Britons and, in conjunction with beacon lighting across the realm, binds our communities together as one nation.
“The ceremony was good fun thanks to the loyal subjects of Ewenny who were in good cheer despite the wet and windy weather.”
