The 2017 General Election campaign was a great exercise of democracy in action, and once more the Vale of Glamorgan proved a fascinating constituency seat for observers and candidates alike. I am truly privileged to have been chosen a third time to represent the Vale of Glamorgan as your MP. It is a role that I value even more with every constituent I meet and every case with which I assist.
Since my election, it has always been my aim to be a champion for Barry and the Vale. Having been re-elected I am keen to continue in that same vein, indeed, I want to do even more to ensure that the Vale of Glamorgan continues to see new investments arrive and employment opportunities increase. New opportunities will arrive on the back of the significant announcement from Aston Martin in St Athan and I will continue to work closely with the new Vale Council administration along with community and charitable groups. I also want to work closely with the Welsh Government to unlock investment in the Vale’s communities and help align Westminster policy with the local area.
I will redouble my efforts and make a commitment to every single resident in the Vale, from Dinas Powys to Ogmore By Sea, of any age or political alignment, to offer my help or support on any issue large or small as your Member of Parliament. At any time, please do get in touch on 01446 403 814 or [email protected].
I pay tribute to all the candidates that stood in this election, all of whom conducted themselves with grace and dignity, affording the constituents of the Vale of Glamorgan a positive and enlightening local campaign.
Across the Vale last weekend, ‘Great Get Together’ events were organised by volunteers to remember and celebrate the life of Jo Cox whose life was tragically taken from her as she served her community. Visiting a number of these events, I was overwhelmed by the positivity and warmth of those attending and running the Great Get Togethers. This pride in community and demonstration of unity is what makes the Vale so very special. In light of the tragic events which have occurred in the United Kingdom in recent months, it is prevalent now more than ever, to consider Jo Cox’s famous words, “we are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us”.
