Column in the Barry & District News by Alun Cairns MP:
TOMORROW is the last day to write to the Vale Council to oppose their car parking proposals.
Readers will be aware of my position in opposing parking charges and I know many across the community are in disbelief that the Council are considering these proposals at a time of great uncertainty for local traders.
Coronavirus has created huge difficulties for local businesses and they will not be helped by these charges, which I have long argued will have a detrimental impact. Charges, coupled with this crisis, will be very damaging for Barry.
However, it’s not too late for the proposals to be scrapped.
I am hopeful that the Vale Council will now reflect on these proposals and agree that, in the current context of battling a global pandemic, our businesses already face challenging times. They must be supported as much as possible, or there is a serious risk that our local high streets will not survive.
Please make sure that you write to the Vale Council to object.
You can send objections by email to [email protected] or write to Director of Environment & Housing, Vale of Glamorgan Council, The Alps, Wenvoe, CF5 6AA. The deadline for objections is Friday 19th June.
