Rhoose Lifeguards have this week received the news that they have been recognised by the UK Government as an outstanding lifeboat charity and will by extension be pocketing a slice of the £1million of UK Government funding available to boost search and rescue efforts.
Rhoose Lifeguards join a further four lifeboat charities across the length and breadth of Wales who are set to receive this UK Government funding. The Rhoose club, who will receive £5,679 are looking to spend the funding on a new motor for their current lifeboat, and other vital maritime equipment that will compliment their training programme.
Upon hearing the news of Rhoose Lifeguards being granted the funding, Simon Perry, Vice Captain said, "Having this Government grant means we can replace our ageing equipment ensuring we can provide a more reliable voluntary lifeguard service to the community in Rhoose. It will also allow us to engage more young people into the sport and spread the message about first aid and safety at the seaside,"
Vale MP Alun Cairns added, “I am delighted that this great local club is set to receive such a substantial sum. Rhoose Lifeguards carry out fantastic work in training lifesavers of all ages and it is always a pleasure to witness how engaged even their youngest members are in the maritime activities. Visiting the club to congratulate them on receiving this recognition, it was clear to see how much enjoyment the club gives to its numerous ‘nippers’ and ‘juniours’. Rhoose Lifeguards is a thoroughly deserving recipient of this funding and I look forward to seeing how it will help them develop and grow as a club.”
