This week Vale MP Alun Cairns had this winter’s flu jab at Sylvia Williams Chemist on Cowbridge High Street to raise awareness of the importance and availability of vaccination.
Influenza can cause days of bed-bound misery, and presents a risk of serious complications to the elderly, young children and those with weak immune systems.
New flu vaccines are developed every year to act against new strains of the virus. They are provided free on the NHS to those at risk of the virus, and to everyone over 65.
Mr Cairns has had his jab on the High Street to highlight the availability of the vaccine outside of GP practices.
He said, “Anyone who has had the flu knows how awful a bout of the virus can be, and for many people it poses an altogether more serious risk. The good news is that this year’s vaccine is widely available and can be picked up in most local pharmacies.
“At the Sylvia Williams Chemist in Cowbridge where I had my jab, patients not eligible for a free jab on the NHS can get vaccinated for £10.”
