The Vale of Glamorgan’s first ‘Veteran’s Breakfast’ took place on Saturday morning, with over 70 former servicemen and their spouses meeting in the Sully Sports and Social Club.
Organised in the Vale by Anthony Fitzpatick, Veterans Breakfast Clubs have begun springing up across the UK to provide an opportunity for former armed forces personnel to socialise over a big breakfast. The breakfasts are also intended to present an opportunity to seek support, with charities offering services such as support relating to further education, housing, employment and mental health.
Vale MP Alun Cairns visited the launch of the local club last weekend, meeting the veterans and charity workers present. He said, “The Veterans Breakfast is a fantastic idea, creating stronger links between former servicemen and providing an opportunity for mutual support. Anthony Fitzpatrick deserves great praise for ensuring that so many veterans were aware of, and able to attend, the launch of the club.
“There was a very positive atmosphere in Sully, which I am sure will continue as the club grows and supports yet more servicemen over the coming month and years.”
The Vale of Glamorgan Veterans Breakfast Club is open to serving and former members of HM Armed Forces and their families. It meets at 9am every Saturday at the Sully Sports and Social Club.
