Three young artists from the Vale of Glamorgan have won local MP Alun Cairns’ Christmas card competition.
Beth Emerton, a year 6 pupil at Romilly Primary School came in first place with her festive robin design. In second place was Amelia from Birch class at Llancarfan Primary School and in at third was Melissa Cookson from Romilly Primary School.
Mr Cairns received nearly a thousand entries this year, from school pupils across the region. Beth’s winning design will feature on the front of the MP’s card with the two runner ups’ designs being displayed on the back.
Every child who entered has been presented with a personalised parliamentary certificate featuring their own design. The winners also received a Big Ben ruler and pencil as well as a game of ‘Uno’ each.
Speaking of the competition, Alun Cairns said, “I am very proud to be sending Christmas cards to my friends, family and colleagues with Beth’s design on the front.
“There were so many excellent designs sent to me – the decision was very tough! After much contemplation, my team and I agreed that Beth’s design really did stand out, with Amelia and Melissa’s coming as close runners up.
“Thank you to all who entered. It was a joy to judge this competition and I very much look forward to doing so again next year.”
