Young Barry Sea Scouts Tom and Caitlin have been praised by the Secretary of State for Wales, the Rt Hon Alun Cairns MP, for organising what is being described as a ‘very successful’ coffee morning last Saturday in aid of Velindre Cancer Centre.
The young scouts raised £400 pounds through selling cakes, hot drinks and raffle tickets at what the Vale MP called ‘one of the best’ coffee mornings he has ever visited. The event was held in the hall of the 11th Barry Sea Scout Group on Illminster Street and attracted guests from across town.
Mr Cairns said, “Tom and Caitlin have put on one of the best coffee mornings I have ever visited in all my time as an MP – a very impressive achievement for two very young organisers.
“The 11th Barry Sea Scout Hall was packed with visitors enjoying, coffee, cake and the vibrant atmosphere in aid of a good cause.
“Tom and Caitlin should be very proud of their work on behalf of the Velindre Cancer Centre – they are a credit to the local Sea Scouts whose fantastic work with children and young people across Barry makes a big difference to the community.”
