Vale MP Alun Cairns visited Nation Broadcasting beneath the St Hilary Radio Transmitter this week to promote Local Radio Day, which is taking place on Friday May 27th. He inspected the new Cwtch studio for live performances and congratulated the Vale-based company on creating two new stations since his visit last year. They have plans to launch another new station this year which will serve London and the surrounding area, described by the MP as an example of the Vale ‘punching above its weight.’
He said, “Local Radio Day is an initiative which aims to celebrate the partnership between local radio stations and the communities they serve, bringing news to relevant local people and advertising opportunities for local firms.
“The social and economic value of local radio stations should not be underestimated. Communities which have access to local news services, shared features and a medium through which local firms can reach their customers are stronger than those that don’t.
“The Vale is exceptionally lucky to have the free and widely delivered Glamorgan GEM, which along with local radio, provides those essential functions - but in many places across the UK, communities are reliant on radio for basic local news.
“I’m a regular listener of local radio myself when I’m at home in the Western Vale and I encourage everyone to tune in to their local station on the 27th and show support for this great community asset.”
