Alun Cairns MP was at the Amelia Trust Farm this Friday to congratulate young people on achieving awards from the Farm and to pay tribute to the staff and volunteers at the site.
Although the farm is open to the public, its primary purpose is the rehabilitation of youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds who have struggled to attend school and display consistently negative behaviour. The farm gives these youngsters support, structure and an opportunity to learn in a more natural environment than the classroom.
Amelia Trust has been holding annual award ceremonies for many years, but these have recently become more significant following recognition of the awards by City and Guilds.
Mr Cairns was given a tour of new improvements to the site before the award ceremonies took place. Amongst the improvements were a new animal viewing gallery, a prayer labyrinth and a wood chopping station.
The Vale MP paid tribute to volunteers and staff at the site saying, “The work that Amelia Trust does for disadvantaged young people is without compare. Many youngsters are referred to the farm with behaviour problems and a lack of self-worth and come away with skills, confidence and hope for the future. The transformation that takes place here is truly special.
“The dedicated volunteers and staff who do this work are worth their weight in gold. I challenge anyone not to be truly impressed by their achievements in allowing so many young people to play a positive role in society.”
