Vale MP Alun Cairns has praised the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church for organising what he called ‘one of the best community events in Barry’ on Saturday, the Victoria Park Family Fun Day in Cadoxton.
The event, which attracts families from across Barry, was well attended despite the occasional shower and local people enjoyed the competitions, donkey rides and stalls. It was also attended by representatives from Mount Pleasant’s sister Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas.
Mr Cairns officially opened the Fun Day with a speech thanking Pastor Ken Iveson from the local church and Pastor Stephen Lowrie from the US for making the event a success and bringing the local community together. He also spoke of the ‘constant that runs through all our lives giving comfort uncertain times’ while touching on the troubling shootings of police in Texas, in a reference to the solace that many find in their Christian faith.
Mr Cairns said, “It was fantastic to see so many local parents and children having such good a time in such a good natured way. The sense of positivity and community spirit was palpable. I am so grateful to all those who were involved in organising it for helping to boost the local community.”
