Barry volunteers and local children have picked up their paintbrushes to re-paint a town centre mural which has been vandalised on three separate occasions.
The restoration work was organised by PCSO Rhiannon Cummings who received donations from the Barry Round Table and the Drop in Centre Trust for the project to go ahead.
Over a period of three days community groups, charities, police officers, and the Vale MP Alun Cairns, alongside local parents and children, carried out painstaking brush work to return the murals to their former glory.
Eileen Moore, the current chair of the Castleland Community Centre, was delighted to be able to help with the restoration.
She said, “It was lovely to see the whole of the Community come out and help with this project.
“The works took place at Castleland Community Centre and we all enjoyed it.
“I just hope the murals are not damaged again after all our hard work.”
Vale MP Alun Cairns spent a morning with the volunteers re-painting the mural and praised the organisers.
Mr Cairns said, “Rhiannon Cummings is a credit to the Police for arranging this project. It was a fantastic idea of hers and I am very pleased that the Barry Round Table and other groups donated to make it possible.
“It was truly wonderful to see local parents and children carefully re-painting the art works. Many of the brush strokes had to be quite fine and precise, I certainly had to concentrate while painting one of the boards.
“This sort of activity brings people together and demonstrates the good that there is Barry, the strong community spirit and selfless individuals. I am very impressed.”
