A group of 50 Vale residents, predominantly from Llantwit Major, visited Parliament last week at the invitation of local MP Alun Cairns.
The visitors were given a tour of the Palace of Westminster, which included the Commons and Lords debating chambers as well as behind the scenes areas such as HM the Queen’s robing room.
Mr Cairns also held a Q&A session in the Grand Committee Room, where Vale residents were given the chance to quiz the MP on the inner workings of Parliament.
Llantwit resident Jennifer Mullin said, “It was a hugely enjoyable trip. I was fascinated to see the inside of the historic buildings and hear about what goes on behind the cameras during Parliamentary questions.”
Vale MP Alun Cairns said, “It is a privilege to be able to show local people around Parliament and give them an insight into how it works from the perspective of an MP. I encourage every constituent to come at least once before the Palace is closed for renovation works.”
Alun Cairns is organising further coach trips from the Vale of Glamorgan to Parliament in the New Year. Local residents wishing to book a place should contact his office of 01446 403814.
