Barry football club Park Lions FC has received a donation of thirty new footballs from local McDonald’s franchisee David Balcombe.
Park Lions are a ‘mini’ and ‘junior’ football club, competing in the local under-8 and under-14 leagues. They were in need of footballs for their regular practice sessions at the Butts playing fields and contacted their MP, Alun Cairns, who asked David Balcombe of McDonalds for help.
David Balcombe runs 10 McDonalds franchises across South Wales, including the Barry branch on the junction of Cardiff Road and Port Road. He is passionate about helping grassroots football in conjunction with McDonald’s campaign to support local sport.
On Saturday, Carmine Ianucci, who organises Park Lions FC, invited Mr Balcombe and Mr Cairns to an informal ceremony with the young players at the Butts Playing fields to give thanks for the new balls.
McDonald’s franchisee David Balcombe said, ‘’Park Lions FC is a great football club that is dedicated to helping young players from the area enjoy the game. I am pleased to be able to help the club out this season and it was great to meet some of the young players and learn more about their passion for football!’’
Alun Cairns, MP for the Vale of Glamorgan said: ‘’Grassroots clubs such as Park Lions FC are invaluable in helping young players get in to sport and improve their skills and confidence. It’s fantastic the players’ local McDonald’s has been able to provide them with some new equipment this season and I wish them all the best in their upcoming matches.’’
