Cor Heol Y March form Cowbridge were the focus of St David’s Day celebrations in Downing Street last week as Prime Minister Theresa May and Vale MP Alun Cairns wished the country “Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus”.
The local children’s choir, considered one of the best in Wales following their win at the Cor Cymru 2015 competition, entertained the PM, senior ministers and guests from across Wales at the Downing Street reception on March 1st. The Cowbridge choir sang Welsh language songs as guests enjoyed Welsh produce from across the principality.
The Welsh food and drink on offer included Welsh cakes from the Elephant and Bun Deli, also based in Cowbridge, and wine from the Llanerch vineyard just up the road in Hensol.
Vale MP Alun Cairns said, “On March 1st day we took a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our national day amongst the people making their indelible mark in their communities, their country, and across the world.
“I am proud that many of those representing what Wales has to offer were from local bussiness and groups in the Vale of Glamorgan. Our area makes an important contribution to Welsh life that is rightly recognised.”
The Prime Minister took the opportunity to wish everybody “Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus”, and went on to say that the event reminded her of “the huge part Wales has played in our history and the crucial role it will play in the future prosperity of the UK”.
The PM congratulated those businesses present on the quality of their produce and said, “I want to ensure Wales is in the strongest possible position to benefit as we work to spread wealth and prosperity to every part of the UK.
“Our precious Union is at the heart of everything my government does, which is why Wales was one of the first places I visited when I became Prime Minister.”
