Marjorie Sutton of Lidmore Road, Barry, last week celebrated her 100th birthday. A weekend of celebrations was organised by daughter Margaret Everson MBE, to commemorate the impressive mile-stone.
Ms Sutton had the crucial role of building navigation systems for the Halifax Bombers at the Handley Page factory during World War Two. Like the thousands of other British women who engaged in industrial work during the War, Ms Sutton contributed nobly to the British victory.
Attending Marjorie’s birthday celebrations was Vale MP, Alun Cairns who said: “It was truly fascinating to listen to Marjorie speak of her work during the Second World War. The social change which this lady has seen is remarkable – I could have chatted to her all day!”
