On Saturday 1st April the Vale Cricket Club held a grand opening of their new training facilities. The new nets, sponsored by the Ford Garage in Bridgend, will serve as a crucial element of the club’s training ahead of the upcoming season.
Gareth Andrews (pictured), Chair of the Vale Cricket Club is hoping that the facilities will aid in the expansion of the club’s membership, which currently includes two senior teams as well as 50 junior members between the ages of 9 and 15. The club is also looking to develop partnerships with schools in and around the area, thus encouraging further youngsters into the sport.
Attending the opening were Gary Pesticcio, Managing Director of Ford Bridgend, Peter Hybart, Chief Executive of Cricket Wales, Gareth Andrews, Chair of the Cricket Club, Rt Hon Alun Cairns MP and Jane Hutt AM, as well as the club’s members who will be enjoying the new facilities over the coming months.
Mr Cairns said of the occasion, “It was fantastic to see members of the club, of all generations, so happy that their training facilities are being upgraded. I have no doubt that the enhancement will not only please local cricket enthusiasts, but also encourage others to take up the sport. Best of luck to the club for the season ahead!”
The club’s first fixture of the season will be on the 15th April against Brecon.
