Welsh armed forces personnel and related charities gathered for South Wales Armed Forces Day, to commemorate all those who have served in the British Army, Royal Airforce and Navy. The commemoration, which took place in RAF Stormy Down in Bridgend, saw hundreds of people present for the General Salute and laying of the wreaths, including Woody’s Lodge from the Vale of Glamorgan.
Woody’s Lodge, situated on Hayes Road, Sully, is a charity organisation which provides support for veterans in the Vale of Glamorgan of all ages, whether it be offering guidance in job seeking, organising social events with other service users, or help to find a home. Veterans seeking support or volunteers looking to help can contact Woody’s Lodge on 01446 730777.
Commanding Officer, Jason Horton, who is known locally for his work in securing new facilities for Barry Air Cadets, also received recognition by way of an honour.
Attending the commemoration was Secretary of State for Wales and Vale MP Alun Cairns who said, “South Wales Armed Forces Day was a commemoration like no other, to remember those who have gallantly served our country in conflict.
“It was an honour to attend and meet with armed forces personnel and charities from across South Wales, including the Vale of Glamorgan’s very own Woody’s Lodge. To speak with such dedicated individuals who devote so much of their lives to protecting our country was truly humbling and I am eager to do all that I can to help our local charities that provide the sort of support demonstrated by Woody’s Lodge for veterans.”
