Over two hundred families gathered on Ogmore-By-Sea beach for the Pen-Y-Bont Surf Life Saving Club's End of Season Fun Day, on Saturday 16 September.
The club, which has assisted in over twenty rescues this year alone, is seeking to raise funds for a new club house which will cost approximately £1 million in total. The Vale of Glamorgan Council, the National Lottery and the Welsh Government have all agreed to provide necessary funds to aid the club in their investment, however further donations are still required for the installation of a new club house to be feasible.
The End of Season Fun Day went some way to raise funds for the new facilities, while providing games and entertainment for the club's junior members. Activities included a Sand Castle competition, where the winner was the competitor who built the longest-surviving fortress as the tide came in.
Blowing the starter whistle for the children's running race was Vale MP Alun Cairns who said, "I was delighted to see so many young people taking part in the fun day and making the most of this idyllic beach before autumn sets in.
"This group is very well supported by volunteers and members who make the running of the club possible and I will do all that I can to help the group to find funding for fresh facilities."
