A record number of runners laced up their trainers last Saturday 7 October for Park Run’s 13th anniversary.
The local Barry Island branch was no different, with a large group of runners braving the heavy rain and 20mph winds to take on the coastal route.
To commemorate the 13th anniversary, the runners donned limited edition Park Run apricot tops. Following the run, well deserved coffees and bacon sandwiches were enjoyed by runners and organisers at Marco’s café.
Kick-starting the race was marathon runner and local MP Alun Cairns, who congratulated the Barry Island Park Run group on a successful two years since the launching of the local group. He said, “I always thoroughly enjoy taking part in the Barry Island Park Run. Runners come in all weathers to take on the vey scenic 5k course, which this week was particularly stormy!
“I remember the establishment of the Barry Island Park Run over two years ago and commend all of the volunteers for the undeniable hard work and graft that has gone into maintaining the success of this local group.”
Anybody who is interested in getting active on a Saturday morning – from power walkers to experienced runners – can join Barry Island Park Run. For more information, visit www.parkrun.org.uk/barryisland.
