Aberthin public house, the Hare & Hounds, has been awarded a Bib Gourmand by The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2018.
The award recognises the Michelin Guide critics’ personal favourite ‘good, small, affordably priced establishments’. The pub’s Head chef, Tom Watts-Jones, explained “We were informed after the Bib was announced that the critics attended the restaurant on multiple occasions, but we were not aware when they were visiting. We are not a pretentious fine dining establishment – we strive to serve good food sourced from the region and prepared from scratch in our kitchen.”
This award came in the same week that Hare & Hounds was crowned as the Welsh winner of the 2017 “Best Roast Dinner” competition. Continuing this very successful month for the pub, it has been announced that Mr Watts-Jones has been nominated for ‘Pub Chef of the Year Award’ by Secretary of State for Wales and Vale MP Alun Cairns.
The Member of Parliament this week visited the pub to congratulate the staff on receiving the prestigious award and to discuss the chef’s nomination. He said, “With so many stories in the national press regarding the regretful decline of the pub industry, it is fantastic to hear of this local pub thriving and building on its already considerable success.
“Speaking to Tom, Sarah and Alex it was clear how passionate they are about offering the very best service to their customers. I am delighted that they have received this much deserved recognition by Michelin and wish them the very best for the pub’s future.”
