Llantwit Major Boxing Club this week received a visit from Secretary of State for Wales and Vale MP Alun Cairns to celebrate the club members’ recent national success.
Two of the club’s members, Luke Phillips and Callum Barrand, have recently competed in the Novice Championship finals with Luke proving victorious, bringing the Welsh Novice Champion title back to Llantwit Major Amateur Boxing Club.
During the visit both boxers gave the MP a boxing masterclass in the ring, demonstrating the skill and speed required to succeed at national novice level.
Following the visit, Mr Cairns said, “Boxing as a sport has grown tremendously in popularity in recent years and has indeed found a new generation of fans, in part due to big-ticket fights taking place in arenas across the country, but also down to the sheer commitment of those who dedicate their time to running community Amateur Boxing Clubs such as Llantwit Major ABC.
“Congratulations to Luke, Callum and all at Llantwit Boxing Club on a fantastic result for the club at the Novice Championships. Keep up the great work!”
