A day of artistic activities took place in Wick & Marcross School on Saturday 25 November as part of the Charette Art Project. The project, which promotes connectivity within communities through the medium of art, was on Saturday led by artist Owen Griffiths who wishes to see residents living in the villages of Wick & Marcross joining together to appreciate their surroundings.
The day’s activities included designing and sewing flags to be flown in the gardens in the village, weaving willow wall decorations and poster painting. A selection of hot and cold vegan food was available to visitors and a solar powered ‘Sol Cinema’ was situated in the car park with five minute screenings taking place throughout the day.
Visiting the workshop was local MP Alun Cairns who said, “It was very impressive to see so many people turn up for a day of artistic activities for the benefit of the local community. The nature of modern life often means we rush through our villages and towns without stopping to look at what is around us however these art projects that will be dotted around the village will certainly catch the eye of passers-by. The Charrette Art Project has carried out effective work in other villages in the area and I am therefore pleased to see them use Wick as their new muse.”
