Treoes public house, The Star Inn, has been nominated for the national award of 'Britain's Best Pub'.
Vale MP Alun Cairns nominated the pub for the award as part of the Countryside Alliance's Rural Oscars - an annual set of awards designed to recognise the very best of rural British business.
Visiting Treoes to discuss the nomination with the pub's landlord Mark Newbold, Mr Cairns said, "With such a brilliant selection of pubs in the Vale of Glamorgan, it was a difficult decision to choose my nomination for this year's Rural Oscars, however the work that Mark has carried out at The Star Inn really stood out to me. While the pub industry faces great challenges across the country, Mark has built The Star Inn from strength to strength, transforming it from a struggling establishment to a community hub that is highly popular with locals and visitors alike.
"I am incredibly impressed by Mark's success at The Star Inn and I sincerely hope that the Countryside Alliance will too recognise the excellence of this Treoes stalwart."
Mr Newbold added, "It is a great honour to have been nominated for this national award. This is not an easy time to be in the pub industry therefore I am thrilled to have received this recognition for mine and my team's dedication. This pub is very special to me and I hope that the people of Treoes are as proud of this nomination as I am."
