NatWest bank have confirmed to local MP Alun Cairns that their Cowbridge branch will not now close on June 4th.
Following an intense lobbying campaign from the public and politicians, they have announced that it will now remain open until the 7th November 2018.
Mr Cairns highlighted that although one of the NatWest bank’s means of banking was through the Post Office, Cowbridge doesn’t currently have one.
Vale of Glamorgan MP, Alun Cairns said of the situation,
“I met with the NatWest team earlier this year as I was so concerned about the planned closure. The regional management argued that customers could use the Post Office. Naturally, I pointed out that there wasn’t one in Cowbridge and that they should think again.
This is something that I am again working on but in the interim, it was unacceptable to see NatWest Close, when customers had no facility to access their NatWest accounts.
I am pleased that NatWest have taken on board the views of local residents and have at least delayed the closure of this branch but the campaign will continue.
I would like to reassure residents that I am working hard to find a positive outcome, as well as seek out a suitable location for the Post Office.
I recognise many people have changed their banking habits, but there are occasions when we all need a branch, and in the rural Vale I believe it is important that each community have a branch they can access.
The team at NatWest are committed to helping their customers seek alternative solutions”
