Vale of Glamorgan MP, Alun Cairns has welcomed the announcement from the Welsh Government that there is to a reduction in the commission paid by park home owners such as in Ham Manor Park in Llantwit Major. At present, park home owners are required to pay up to a 10% commission to the site owner on the sale of their homes. This is a policy that has been in existence for as long as people have used park homes as a permanent residence.
It has become clear that the maximum level of 10% has become a barrier for many residents who want or need to move to alternative accommodation. The phased approach to change will enable site owners to adjust their business models and hopefully reduce the risk to their businesses.
Ham Manor Park home owner, Jo Cody said of the plan
“I am very pleased this change is coming, and hope it will be quick. I have campaigned on this subject myself and went to the Senedd last year to call for change.”
Mr Cairns said of the announcement
“I am very pleased that following a successful campaign, there will now be a reduction to the 10% maximum commission that is paid by park home owners
“I very much hope that this welcome reduction in sale fees on park homes will be introduced sooner rather than later.
“Home owners do not have to pay a 10% charge on the sale of their house and I am very much in favour of park home owners being treated the same.”
