Local MP Alun Cairns met Friends of Llantwit Major Dementia Café for a coffee and chat at Bethel Baptist Church in last week.
Local carers, sufferers of dementia and Mr Cairns, discussed their experiences of living with dementia and the responsibilities of looking after those affected. The morning was organised with the help of Dementia Champion, Teresa McGuire, who works closely with those linked to dementia.
The event provided the opportunity for those in attendance to put questions to Alun Cairns MP and also to share advice with each other, while enjoying coffee and cake in a relaxed environment.
Alun said, “I must pay tribute to Teresa McGuire and her team of volunteers. They do fantastic work and I’m really glad I got the opportunity to meet with the Friends of Llantwit Major Dementia Café.”
“We were able to discuss some really important issues and I am keen to take a further look into some of the matters raised. Forums like this are a great way to find out the real, day-to-day problems that can be encountered.
“The Dementia Café is a great example of the support that community groups can provide. People like Teresa do an excellent job of setting up these events to support people with dementia and their carers, and I’m delighted that the coffee morning was such a success.”
