Dozens of dog walkers met at Romilly Park in Barry at the weekend to display their anger with the proposed Public Space Protection Order relating to dog controls in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Over recent weeks campaign groups have been set up on social media to challenge the proposals, which have attracted hundreds of concerned residents.
Speaking to the campaign group at Romilly Park on Sunday, Alun Cairns MP said that he shares the concerns of residents and has encouraged them to engage with the consultation process. The Vale MP has also met with residents to understand the key issues they have with the changes and is planning to meet with the Vale Council to discuss these issues in greater detail.
Mr Cairns said, “Having already met with members of one of the campaign groups in my office, I have requested to meet with the Director of Environment and Housing to discuss the Council’s proposed dog controls. The proposals have presented major concerns for dog walkers and that’s why I want to speak to the Council to raise these issues.”
He added, “So far, there has been a lot of confusion about what the proposals will mean for dog owners. The Council need to engage with the community to find a solution that works for everyone. Responsible dog owners will have no issue with taking action against dog fouling but they do not want to find that they have fewer areas to enjoy.”
