This weekend saw the opening of a brand new ice cream parlour called Zio’s Gelateria on Barry Island.
The new store has been set up by brothers Tino and Marco Zeraschi of Marco’s Café, which gained fame through the show Gavin and Stacey and sits within walking distance of the new premises.
Ice cream lovers queued up for the much anticipated opening, with Vale MP, Alun Cairns, becoming the first customer at Zio’s. The Gelateria serves a range of exciting flavours all made on the premises - from Salted Caramel to Lemon Sorbet and Kinder Bueno to Ferrero Rocher. There are also a number of additional options for those who opt to sit in, such as a Knickerbocker Glory, with there being plenty of table space available.
Mr Cairns said, “I was delighted to be the first customer at Zio’s. Tino and Marco have done an exceptional job creating a real attraction to Barry Island. I have no doubt that this will pull people to the Island from all over. It’s hard to believe that such a fantastic array of ice-creams are made on the premises using traditional Italian methods.
The Vale MP added, “It’s so important that Barry Island continues to attract investment and Zio’s is another big vote of confidence. With this we’ve got something which will not only create jobs itself but will hopefully give a big boost to the whole area.”
