Cowbridge traders are calling on the community to come together to support the High Street’s nomination in the Great British High Street Awards. With the backing of traders, the Chamber of Trade and local MP Alun Cairns, Cowbridge now needs support from the community to win the ‘Rising Star Award’.
Thirty eight finalists have been announced across the UK in the two categories, with 12 up for the Rising Star Award and 26 for the Champion Award. They will now battle it out in a public vote, which accounts for 30 per cent of the final scoring, and will then have the chance to impress an expert judging panel as they seek to be crowned Britain’s best.
Alun Cairns MP met with Kate Thomas, of Sylvia Williams Chemist, and Alun John, of Arthur John, to offer his support for the campaign and encourage people to vote. The Vale MP has joined with traders and the Chamber of Trade to call on Vale residents to support Cowbridge by via social media. It’s easy to participate in the public vote, just post on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using both of the hashtags #MYHIGHSTREET and #GBHSCowbridge and this will register your vote. The voting system also allows multiple votes. You can visit http://www.thegreatbritishhighstreet.co.uk for more information.
The winning entries for both the Champion and Rising Star categories will be announced on 15 November 2018 at an awards ceremony in London.
Mr Cairns said, “This is a great opportunity to highlight the fantastic offer to visitors in Cowbridge, as the High Street becomes an even more attractive place to set up shop. We have an excellent High Street on our doorstep and the traders deserve recognition for their hard work and dedication to promoting Cowbridge. It’s so important that we come together as a community to give them our backing and hopefully push them on to win.”
Kate of Sylvia Williams Chemist, added, “We are thrilled that Cowbridge is a finalist. It has been a real team effort getting there and we hope the whole community will support us by voting.”
