Vale MP Alun Cairns has urged residents in Llysworney to engage with the Vale Council’s public consultation on proposals to ban HGVs weighing over 7.5 tonnes from travelling through the village.
There has been a strong campaign from local residents, following years of struggling with the volume of HGV’s usage of the route through the small village and The Vale MP has been campaigning with the local community for over a decade to get HGV’s removed from Llysworney.
Mr Cairns has engaged with the community in Llysworney and raised their concerns directly with the Vale of Glamorgan Council. Following this, the Council has agreed to go out to consultation on proposals which will see HGV’s banned from travelling through the village.
The Vale MP has commented, “I fully recognise the significant issues that the passage of HGV’s presents to the local community in Llysworney. In addition to the congestion issues, it is clear that HGV’s are totally unsuitable for travel on narrow country lanes. It’s a matter that I have campaigned on for over a decade and the GEM has rightly highlighted it on many occasions.”
He added, “Now that we’ve successfully secured a proposal and consultation from the Vale Council, it is vital that the residents engage fully with the consultation to show support for the proposals, which stand to benefit Llysworney. I want to pay tribute to Cllr Christine Cave and the local community who have consistently campaigned for this.”
