Vale MP Alun Cairns joined bowls players from across the Vale at the green in Sully Indoor Bowls Club, ahead of the start of the winter season. The facility is used by players from Clubs across the Vale, including Rhoose, Llantwit Major, Barry and Cowbridge.
For the winter season, players that usually play outdoors at bowls greens, in places like Rhoose and Llantwit Major, can continue to enjoy the sport by moving to the impressive 8 rink international indoor arena in Sully. The facilities are some of the best in the country and regularly plays host to International Championships.
Sully Bowls Club, which has over 1000 members, runs a competitive programme of bowls which accommodates all levels of ability. The indoor bowls rinks are open throughout the autumn and winter period from September to May and are available to be booked seven days a week.
Mr Cairns praised the Bowls Club, saying, “It was great to catch up with bowls players from across the Vale who are using this excellent indoor facility for the winter season, having kindly been invited by members of Rhoose Bowls Club. Bowls provides so many people with the opportunity to stay active and socialise and I’m really pleased to see that players locally have the opportunity to use such an impressive rink. For anyone who is thinking about playing, I can certainly recommend getting involved. I played a couple of games myself and it was thoroughly enjoyable and most importantly the people at the Club are incredibly welcoming.”
