Y Bont Faen Primary School Cowbridge is to reopen on the 7th June following Vale Council confirmation that the main restructural building works will be completed during half term.
The full response from the Vale Council announced at 3pm on 25th May states:
I am pleased to advise that all affected pupils in Key Stage 2 will be able to return to school for lessons in their classrooms from the start of term, 7 June, the 6th being an INSET day. A letter has gone out to parents via the school advising them of the progress made.
Council officers have been in daily contact with the headteacher regarding the emergency provision put in place. Officers have been supporting the school with the coordination and logistics with the relocation of furniture, equipment and learning/teaching resources, and worked at pace to deliver a plan of works to facilitate the safe return of staff and pupils following the half term break. Parents have been provided with a point of contact in the council to respond to their queries.
The cause of disruption came to light during planned capital upgrade works to the schools’ estate. Phase 1 began in 2019 and phase 2 in April of this year. The investment programme is set to continue following the mitigations now in place, to continue to upgrade the estate as planned. The roofing works are continuing to progress and are anticipated to complete during June. Subject to tender and approval, a new suspended ceiling with associated lighting will be installed in the affected areas during the school summer holidays.
Alun Cairns commented, 'While it is good news that the Vale Council have progressed plans forward to minimise school disruption, parents, staff and pupils must be reassured by the Council that the school will be safe for pupils to return on the 7th June. We must see prior sight of any new risk assessment that the Council will complete. The safety of children and staff is paramount and must be the main focus of this issue. I hope that the Vale and the contractors can satisfy these strong safety concerns prior to the pupils return on the 7th June'
